Can Expensive Hotels Be Awful?

It's interesting reading different reviews of hotels that expensive hotels can be very good, but in some cases they can be actually awful. That can depend a lot on what each tourist or tourist couple or family is expecting to get out of their vacation. With the winter on my mind, let's look at the situation at Miami Beach, Florida. For example, at one well known ritzy hotel, the Shore Club, the younger crowd had a bit of a better reaction to it than the baby-boomer set. A baby-boomer couple thought the service and attention to their needs was decent. What really got them upset was a nightclub that by Thursday was extremely obnoxiously noisy until 3 a.m., and they were on a low-floor. Even when their room was moved to a higher floor, they were still somewhat blown away by the noise on Saturday night, when the club was open till 4 am. A younger woman, who went with friends also had a so-so experience at the Shore club, but for different reasons. She loved the Sky club and the Red room, and met lots of cute people, especially young men who she partied with. The night club that annoyed the older couple was the one thing that she and her friends really liked about the hotel. She and her friends also adored the proximity to the absolutely gorgeous beach. She did not like at all the ultra-modern furniture, which included tiled floors, not carpeted and other features she thought were too austere. The hotel seemed to have a very good restaurant and an exciting, for the young crowd, lounge and nightclub. Yet even this can have a downside. Not only was the nightclub noisy, but hotel patrons complained that they could not get into the Nobu, a Japanese style restaurant, because it was way too crowded. The restaurant was fine, but it was too small, and too open to the public. Some of these complaints have to be looked at in perspective. Many hotels go for ultra-modern furniture because it gives rave reviews from certain newspaper critics, and it is easier to care for. Most of the public prefers traditional, or even antique furniture and of course, thick carpets. In general, hotels can either cater to the young, and hip crowd, or to the older baby-boomers but not both. A different type of hotel is often necessary for a family vacation.
